I was transferred to Bahrain between 1980-1987 by The Arabian East Bureau, the organization where I worked for as civil engineer. As a young man whose focus was on the job in the office during the day in a foreign country, where I knew only a few people on the job and my family was far away in Thailand, the desire to have a place where I could rest and call home after work started to kick in my blood and inspired me to apply my career specialization to build a place where foreigners could call it home.
I returned to Thailand in 1987 with a desire to make my dream come true. I started up my own company in 1990, 3 years after returning from Bahrain. My first company, Building 33 Co., Ltd., has started out as a construction company, which originally focused on the construction of public buildings and high-rise condominiums. As Building 33 Co., Ltd. started to grow and expand, my desire to build a place where people from foreign countries could call “home” grew even stronger.
In 2007 I discovered a piece of land close to the Victory Monument, the artery of public transportation in Bangkok. This hidden piece of treasure situates on Ratchwithi Soi 2, which is just about 5-10 minute walk to the Victory Monument, the bustling of people, activities, transportation, etc., and yet very quiet and safe as it is surrounded by residential areas and military official housings. While the area is convenient and lively, it is also safe and quiet.
The Laurel Suite has eventually sprang up on this hidden oasis of Bangkok as a serviced apartment with a concept of “home away from home” for both business and leisure travelers, who come from foreign countries to seek and discover all the opportunities in the Golden Land of Smiles of Thailand and the City of Angel of Bangkok. After its completion in 2008, the Laurel Suite was pictured and described as a “hidden gem” by local papers and magazines.
The Laurel Suite certainly is an icon of my ultimate desire to provide a safe, clean, friendly, comfortable, convenient, and upscale “home away from home” to people from all walks of lives, especially those from the far-away lands.
